Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Aussie 4WD(“we”, “us”), which operates Aussie 4WD Deals(the “Service”), collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). By using the Service you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile photo from Google.
• Profile information. The display name and handle you choose, and your email notification preferences.
• Content you submit. Deals, comments, group buys, votes, saved deals, reports, and any images you upload. Most of this is public by design.
• Group buy details. If you join a group buy, the organiser and our administrators can see the name, email and quantity you provide so the group buy can be coordinated.
• Technical information. Basic data such as your IP address, browser type and interactions, collected automatically to operate and secure the Service.

2. How we use your information

• To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
• To operate core features — posting, voting, saving, commenting and group buys.
• To send you service and notification emails you've opted into (e.g. expiring saved deals, replies to your comments, group buy updates). You can change these any time in your notification settings.
• To moderate content, enforce our Rules, prevent abuse and keep the Service secure.
• To comply with our legal obligations.

3. Cookies

We use a single essential, HttpOnly session cookie to keep you signed in. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Disabling it will prevent you from signing in.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service, under their own privacy and security obligations:

• Google Firebase (authentication, database and image storage), provided by Google.
• Resend (sending transactional and notification emails).

Some of these providers may process data on servers outside Australia. We also publish content you choose to post publicly, and may disclose information where required by law.

5. Security & retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including restricting database writes to our authenticated server and using secure, HttpOnly session cookies. No system is perfectly secure. We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations.

6. Your rights

You may access or correct your personal information through your account settings, or by contacting us. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal information. Under the Privacy Act you may also complain about how we handle your information; we'll work with you to resolve it, and you can escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

7. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “last updated” date above.
